Sustainability & CSR

Our responsibility towards a better future

Sustainability

At ZIL, sustainability is a core value. We comply with health and safety regulations and continuously improve in safety, health, environment protection, energy conservation, and product quality. We have strict supplier standards and engage with local communities to meet our social responsibility goals. Our efforts have earned us recognition in health and safety, environmental protection, and corporate social responsibility.

Our commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through our green energy initiatives, such as the 40.85 MW Cogeneration Power Plant at Aira which uses bagasse as its primary source of power generation and promotes renewable energy. The steam produced by Turbo Generators is diverted towards sugar processing, making it an efficient and sustainable source of energy. Additionally, the cogeneration plant sells ~22 MW of power every hour to the state of Uttar Pradesh, with a minimal carbon footprint compared to conventional sources of power. Our distillery at Zuari also produces approximately 125 KLPD of ethanol, a renewable and eco-friendly fuel source that aligns with our sustainability commitment.

At ZACL, we have taken various sustainable initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment, such as establishing a zero-effluent plant and turning biodegradable waste into valuable vermicompost. MCFL is committed to manufacturing fertilizers and chemicals in compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations while achieving energy conservation and enhancing food safety. At PPL, sustainability is at the forefront of our operations, and we consume renewable energy, continuously monitor emissions, recycle waste, harvest rainwater, and ensure zero liquid discharge. We prioritize employee training and have reached out to over 8 million farmers through training sessions and soil sample testing.

ZACL closely associates with key stakeholders in the community to improve sanitation and solid waste management in the Zuarinagar area in Goa. We have allocated land for waste segregation and disposal and laid a 4.5 KM long water pipeline to provide drinking water to the villages of Belem and Dando, benefiting 250 rural families.
At MCFL, our "Project Eye-Care" programme aims to prevent blindness, especially in rural areas, through free eye check-ups and cataract surgeries.
PPL promotes safe drinking water and sanitation and conducts regular health check-ups in remote locations. We focus on behavioral aspects of hygiene and sanitation by engaging with women, adolescent girls, and school children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we donated INR 1.5 Crore to the Odisha Disaster Management Authority and conducted a statewide campaign for children. We also distributed ration and nutritional kits to vulnerable communities, migrant workers, and poor families.

We also equip women from the local community with important employment-generating skills through entrepreneurship development, vocational training, and the creation of small-scale enterprises.
MCFL's Gram Vikas Project is committed to rural development, and we assist tribal families through special programs in tribal areas.
At PPL, we strive to uplift the marginalized rural and urban communities in the vicinity of our plant in Paradeep by promoting livelihood initiatives for small and marginal farmers, landless, women SHGs, and youth groups. We align our initiatives with national flagship programs and partner with technical and non-government institutions for implementation.
